MUSIC For A Summer's Afternoon, an informal concert with tea and cakes, takes place at Week St Mary Parish Hall on Saturday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. With Valley Voices - pictured - and Toute Ensemble, the concert will be a real treat of musical entertainment through the ages, in an intimate setting.

Listen and enjoy while you sample delicious home-made cakes with your tea or coffee. Valley Voices is a new chamber choir, an ensemble of 14 mixed voices with an interesting and varied repertoire, largely unaccompanied, to include sacred music, madrigals, partsongs, folksong for choirs, and popular 20th-century song arrangements. The Valley is the Tamar Valley, where they rehearse (at St Mellion Church near Saltash). Their performances so far have been at the Saltash May Fair and Brunel celebrations where they sang a cappella and al fresco, at Looe School, and Fowey, St Mellion and Pillaton churches.

Valley Voices would be pleased to hear from good singers who have a pleasant, musical voice and can sing in tune, can sightsing (or prove that they can learn fast by other means) and can sing well in an ensemble. If you would like an audition please e-mail: They do not plan to have regular, weekly rehearsals but rather to spend occasional Saturdays enjoying themselves through singing, building their repertoire, working on technique and enjoying each other's company.

Toute Ensemble is a group of ten musicians, playing recorders and windcaps (crumhorns, cornamuses, cortols and shawms) often with cello on the bass line.

It was formed 20 years ago and performs throughout Plymouth and South East Cornwall at fairs, fetes, dances and banquets, especially within Tudor premises, in costume where appropriate, including the annual Mary Newman Salmon Fest in Saltash, and the Camelford Charter Celebrations in 2009.

The repertoire varies from very early music (13th-century), through Renaissance (including the famous Playford dances) to 20th- century arrangements. Anyone who wants to enquire about membership or booking either group can contact 01752 846102.

Entry to the concert on Saturday is free, but donations on the door are invited to support the upkeep of the Parish Hall.
