Enhancing U.S. interests in the Asia-Pacific region
Historically Asia-Pacific Region (APR) is one of the most important objects of the American foreign policy. Since the end of World War II until the end of the 20th century no country in the world has been able to weaken the U.S. dominance in the region.
However, the political and economic processes in the Asia-Pacific region have revealed a serious competitor to the United States. It is China. China aggressively seeks to implement its policy in the region. According to the former U.S. Secretary of Defense Panetta R., "The emergence of China as a regional power is able to affect the US economy and our security ...".
President Obama has repeatedly said on the need to shift the focus of American interests from the Middle East to the Asia-Pacific region. In spite of the U.S. military presence in the Asia-Pacific region, the White House has already signed an agreement with the governments of Australia, Singapore and the Philippines to deploy US military bases on their territories.
According to a new U.S.
military strategy, the giant military bases should be replaced by smaller military objects but cover up more countries in the region. By the way, today there are more than 750 U.S. military bases all over the world that is about 95% of all military bases around the world.
In addition, the U.S. has been forming new military political coalitions with Asia Pacific countries that have differences with the Chinese leadership, as well as encouraging desires of states to break away from their dependence on Beijing.
It is noteworthy that the U.S. government declared a program to reduce the military budget over the next ten years, has no plans to cut spending on the military presence in such a politically, economically and strategically important region as the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, the U.S. has the possibility to redistribute financial and other resources in the Asia-Pacific region after the shrinking operations for "spreading the democracy" in the Middle East, which resulted in coups in Arab countries.
