Increasing militarization of the Arctic

Recently the Arctic has become the "apple of discord" for many countries of the world. ready to compete. The main rivals of our country are the United States and its NATO allies owning the longest Arctic territories.

In Washington and Brussels they do not hide plans for the Arctic - NATO military power should provide its growing military-strategic and economic interests in this part of the world. Military exercises conducted by NATO nations grow in scale exponentially. For example, in 2007 " Denmark, Canada and the United States participated in the "Operation Nanook military exercises, in 2009 ten states were involved in the "True Arrow" military exercises, and in 2012 in the "Cold Response" military exercises 16,000 troops from 15 countries participated. It is hard to imagine how many foreign troops will take part in the exercises, scheduled for August of this year.

The most important thing is that all military actions have taking place in the immediate vicinity of the Russian border.

NATO air force aircrafts capable of striking Russian military facilities on the Kola Peninsula attached to the "Baltic air patrols Operation" do not contribute to the improvement of the military-political situation in the region

Russia is deeply concerned about the fact that two radars modernized in Greenland and Norway which are included in the U.S. missile defense system. Modern equipment makes it easy to "see" almost all of the Arctic regions in Russia. Moreover, American nuclear submarines with nuclear weapons on board travel through the waters of the Arctic.

Thus, the Arctic region is a place of increased military activity of the North Atlantic bloc, which makes our borders extremely vulnerable. As long as Washington takes active steps in order to "make the Arctic a top priority for the NATO," Russia will be forced to increase its military presence in the region. Other way, we just do not have.
